Being a single mom doesn’t mean that you have to stay that way for the rest of your life. You don’t have to live inside the house taking care of your children until you die. There are many opportunities waiting for you outside which are means of finding love once again.
Once you become a single mom, it does not put you at a position of disadvantage from moving on to the next and higher stage of enjoying what life and love have to offer. You have to explore a true and deeper relationship beyond the four corners of the house.
The Fear of Dating for a Single Mom
Dating has been a scary word for single parents that they often take it as something not worth it. Sometimes, they think that they don’t want to go back to a usual getting-to-know-each-other setup and just want to spend most of their time taking care of their children. However, there are others who still want to try having another relationship and a partner. They consider the idea of dating to finally meet the one who will stay.
3 Rules for Dating as a Single Parent:
1. Never introduce your kids to your partner too early.
Kids are naturally sociable which makes them to easily get attached to a person especially when they find that someone unique and approachable. Single parents are advised not to introduce their child to that person they’re dating for the meantime because things aren’t stable and serious yet. When you know that the person is a potential partner who can relate to you and your child, then maybe it’s the right time for you to do that.
Take a careful step in the action because that might be a win or lose case. Even if at the end of the day, you are the one to decide what and who is best for you; your child is still a big consideration. You may introduce that person as a friend and do family activities together as if you’re a complete family. Slowly, when that set up remains as it is, it will now be easier for your child to accept that person in both of your lives.
2. Choose the right person who is good enough for you and your child.
It’s human nature to make mistakes but this time, mistakes are not allowed. Your child is at stake if you make the wrong move. Find someone who will lighten the load for you and will love your child just like his/her own. Selecting is the hardest part of dating where you need not just once but a couple of times to think who is best for you and your child.
3. Keep your Ex out of your mind.
Your past should no longer interfere with your present. Do you know what “moving on” means? It literally means moving forward and not backward. Move on! Start making new and happy memories with another person you are in touch at the moment.
Single moms deserve a chance in love. You deserve the love you so freely give. You deserve to be happy like anyone else. Keep these three golden rules in dating and you’ll never go wrong!
